Stay Safe

Safety Net

Here at HugoFox.com, we’re all about looking after locals, which is why we work hard to provide a cosy, comfortable, unthreatening experience for all our users.

We welcome silver-surfers, technophobes and children with open arms (although these days, we’re often left looking to the nine-year-olds to solve the latest IT problem). We know the internet can be a scary place, and things aren’t always as clear-cut as we’d like – so we’ve put together a few points to keep your browsing hassle-free.

Any questions at all, just contact one of our friendly team who will be happy to help.

Paying for Posts

Your account is protected and personal – we don’t store or share your details with anyone and we can guarantee that any payment we take for the use of the site is 100% secure. Don’t forget – it’s free to register with HugoFox.com and search in any of our categories.

Use Your Loaf

When communicating with buyers or sellers listed on HugoFox.com, we’d stress that you make decisions and act as you would if you were browsing on the high street. In all cases we’d advise the common sense approach when purchasing or communicating online: If someone asks you for your bank details and you don’t know them from Adam, or if you find you’ve been offered a job as the Queen’s bodyguard and didn’t even go for the interview, use your loaf and stay well clear. Even better, get in touch with us and we’ll put our detective hats on.

Found a Job You Fancy?

Great stuff - that’s what we’re here for. But before you start arranging your leaving do, it’s worth investing a little time in some research to ensure you’re equipped with all the information you need.

  • Do your homework before you go for an interview. Find out as much about your prospective employers as possible; this will help you better understand the company and what their expectations might be.
  • Get face to face with the person recruiting for the role – be wary of anyone offering you a job without meeting up first.
  • Only provide bank or ID details when you have met your employer and accepted the role.
  • Be scam-savvy: don’t accept any job that asks you to work at home cashing cheques.
  • …And if you have any reason to believe that somebody on our site is operating an illegal enterprise, please tell us.

Looking for a New Set of Wheels?

HugoFox.com is an easy way to find cars for sale near you. After all, a warranty is great, but not if you’ve got to drive three hours to make use of it.

HugoFox.com provides the cars, but any purchase or agreement made exists purely between yourself and the dealer in question. We can’t offer any buyer protections or safe payments beyond the walls of our site.

Again, know who you’re dealing with. Do your research and make sure you view any vehicles before agreeing to buy. Another word of advice – it’s always wise to see a car in daylight and take someone else along for a second opinion (and for your own safety).

If you suspect anything dodgy about someone advertising via HugoFox.com, please tell us. We pride ourselves on helping folk source quality, local goods from reliable suppliers. If you think anyone doesn’t deserve to be listed with us, we need to know.

Need a Service?

We’re all about community and supporting local businesses, large and small, is important to us. While we go to great efforts to make sure that the companies on our site are reputable and respected in their areas, as a user of HugoFox.com, we recommend that you have a look at our few tips below to make sure your experience of hiring or buying is a good, clean and happy one☺.

Loans

If you are buying a car on credit or agreeing any terms on a loan, ensure that you validate the loan provider to make sure all is above board. If in doubt, contact your local Citizen’s Advice Bureau for some advice.

Repairs

Don’t send anything off for repair until you have checked the company to which you are posting is validated and reliable. You may wish to pay a visit to their premises in person or simply do a check on their company details.

Building Work

Avoid the yee-haw! Cowboys are great in the movies, but you wouldn’t want them messing about with your electrics. Check all the ratings and accreditations of whoever you hire for building work to ensure they are genuine and skilled at the work you are paying them to do. Some specific jobs require certain certifications, so be sure to look into this.

If you require any further help or advice on any of the above, please contact us.

A Few Common Questions…

I’ve been sent the password for my account but I didn’t request it. Is someone trying to break in and hijack my posts!?

Don’t panic. Breathe deeply. It’s most likely that somebody has tried to log in with the wrong details - your password is still safe. We’ll only ever send its details to the contact email registered on your account.

There’s an ad on HugoFox.com which I didn’t post but my details are listed and I keep getting phone calls. It’s really annoying.

What a pain – we’re really sorry. Chances are that someone has entered their details incorrectly when posting an ad and yes, those details are yours. Tell us and we’ll disable the ad and get in touch with the person responsible for the post.

I've received a suspicious response to my ad. What should I do?

If you aren’t sure whether a reply you’ve received is dodgy, do a bit of research to find out whether it’s part of a scam. If you are worried, don’t proceed to make contact – let us know and we’ll see what we can do to help.
